Social Studies Unit: "What is a Family?"I created, planned, and taught this unit to a 1st grade class. Lesson topics include: present/past/future, wants versus needs, what a family is, how families are different, and how school is like a family. Diversity was out vocab word of the week, and we focused on how people and families can be different in many different ways.

Geo-DiaryThe Geo-Diary is an opportunity for students to use pictures they have taken document the places they are during an average day or week. they will include different directional descriptions and geography themes eg.(camera is facing northeast, themes involved are Absolute Location and Movement of Goods).

Economic MysteriesThis is an example of a lesson centered around students diagnosing an "economic mystery", and describing what the explanation of the anomaly may be. Students will be asked to reflect on the situation using the "Handy Dandy Guide" which includes questions about the cost, effects, rewards, rules etc... of every situation.
Integrated Literacy Assignment (ILA)The ILA is an example of multimedia use in the classroom. It is a collection of anticipatory set materials, trade books and other forms of multimedia. This particular ILA reflects a 7th Grade GLCE about Eastern Hemisphere Geography.

Library of Congress WebQuestThis particular lesson takes the student on a tour of the Library of Congress (LOC) website. The LOC website is an expansive database of historical data, images, and primary sources.

This assignment asks the student to reflect on their previous experiences in school with Social Studies. They will need to explain if they way the material had been presented and taught to them has an effect on the way they feel about the subject today.
