Special Education
I am certified in two areas of special education: Emotional Impairments and Cognitive Impairments. My experience with students with emotional impairments comes from a regional self-contained EI program. I student-taught in a fifth grade classroom with 11 students, all having severe emotional impairments. I was responsible for all academic planning and instruction, as well as creating, implementing, and assessing: behavior intervention plans, IEP goals and objectives, and deescalation strategies for students in seclusion. My experience with students with cognitive impairments stems from a public middle school resource room where I aided a teacher in inclusion practices. Students were in general education classes, but received remedial support for some of their classes. I taught 7th and 8th grade English and Language Arts via Reader's and Writer's Workshop, as well as wrote IEP goals and objectives for students.
Currently I can be found in the hallways, classrooms, and meeting rooms of the International School of Stuttgart where I teach as a Learning Specialist in the Learning Support Department. I write, implement, and monitor both Individualized Education Plans and Behavior Plans.
I am also grateful to have co-written a new IB-focused "Inclusion Policy" that went into effect in 2016 Moscow Economic School, and also successfully aided teachers in implementing its practices into their classrooms.
Attached you can find: 1) the policy 2) the school-wide presentation and 3) the PD notes that I wrote and delivered during a professional development session.
